On the 19th of September in Lisbon, EUPVSEC 2023 brought together experts and pioneers in the photovoltaics field for the 40th annual conference. Among the attendees, we were proud to host a session that offered a glimpse into our ongoing work.
The EUPVSEC Experience:
EUPVSEC 2023 isn’t just any conference; it’s a meeting of minds and a hub of innovation. For 40 years, it has served as a platform for experts to collaborate and discuss the future of photovoltaics.
PHOTORAMA and EPRI: Recycling Ready for PV!
Our session was titled, “Recycling is Getting Ready for PV – Latest News from PHOTORAMA and EPRI.” We took attendees on a journey through the development of high-value recycling technologies in the PV industry.
During the session, we shared:
Cutting-Edge Research: Experts presented the first results of our research on high-value recycling of crystalline-silicon (c-Si) and thin films CI(G)S End of Life (EoL) modules. We discussed innovative processes, such as disassembling, delamination and metal recovery.
Recent Life Cycle Inventory (LCI): Karsten Wambach presented the results of a recent study from the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) on Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) of new recycling technologies. This data revealed the environmental impacts and potential of emerging recycling methods in Europe and the US.
Policy Implications: We explored the policy implications of developing high-value recycling processes in the photovoltaic industry, focusing on good practices required for PV waste management.
The Presenters:
Our session featured:
Dr. Claire Agraffeil: Project Manager & Coordinator of PHOTORAMA at French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission, CEA
Dr. Wolfram Palitzsch: CEO & Founder at LuxChemTech
Dr. Karsten Wambach: Deputy Managing Director at bifa Umweltinstitut GmbH
Dr. Goril Jahrsengene: Research Scientist at SINTEF Industry
Dr. Charly Lemoine: Research Scientist at French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission, CEA
Aitor Apraiz Arenaza: R&D Engineer at Mondragon Assembly
On top of the presentation we also held a booth at the EUPVSEC fair, ready to share our work and answer questions about high-value PV recycling and PHOTORAMA processes.
